The facts.

Our fee earner’s incur fees based upon their hourly rates and so the amount your case will cost will depend upon how much work we are required to undertake on your behalf. Divorce proceedings are usually fairly straightforward, which enables us to provide you with a realistic cost estimate for dealing with your divorce proceedings from start to finish which is usually between £400.00 plus VAT (£480.00 inclusive of VAT) for very straightforward cases and £600.00 plus VAT (£720.00 inclusive of VAT) if matters are a little more involved or complex.

There is also a court fee to pay in the sum of £550.00 for filing the Petition at court.

On a low income? Help with fees.

However, if you have a low income it is possible for us to complete an application for help with fees form on your behalf which could result in you having a fee exemption (and not having to pay a court fee at all) or a fee reduction (whereby the court request a lower fee).

Financial Matters – the costs arising from your divorce

As there are a number of different ways to settle the financial matters arising from your divorce:

  • Directly between you and your spouse.
  • At mediation.
  • Negotiation through solicitors.
  • Through the court (progressing matters on a formal court timetable).

Due to the different routes to settlement, it is more difficult for us to estimate the associated costs.

If an agreement is reached out of court, it may be that you can agree a fixed fee with the fee earner dealing with your matter for the preparation of a Consent Order and Statement of Information.

If we are required to represent you after court proceedings have been issued, it will be necessary for us to provide you with a more structured cost estimate at that time as working on a court timetable will increase fees and will also likely result in you incurring barrister’s costs and other third party costs (such as costs for valuation reports and actuarial reports).

We aim to provide all clients with open and frank advice in relation to costs and provide regular cost updates in the event that your fees look likely to exceed the initial estimate provided to you.

If you are concerned about costs at any point during your case, our fee earners will be happy to discuss such concerns with you although we are confident that you will find out pricing very competitive and fair.  We would invite you to look at our reviews in which clients praise us for our level of service at affordable prices.
